Telescopes Owners

Many members of Lahore Astronomical Society own telescopes and imaging equipment. We will keep on updating this page as the details are provided to us. So if you have a telescope or a binocular or any camera that you use to image the night sky, and would like to post the details here.. Please email to Umair Asim (umairasim@gmail.com).

Its a 50/1000 mm Refractor Telescope. I made it by myself and one of the best. l  have 3 eyepieces (8, 10 and 30 mm). The highest magnification it gives is 125X. Made out of Wood, Iron and Plastic. It is manual. l can easily see Craters on Moon, Rings of Saturn, Moons of Jupiter, Mars, Venus, cloud of M42, M13 and l have also seen M31 and California Nebula through it.

Telescope: Explore Scientific 114mm reflector

This is my second telescope and was a very special gift. It is the first time I have owned a reflector. The views are sharp and bright. An interesting spec of this telescope that sets it apart from others of the same aperture category is that it has a fast aperture at f4.3. That does end up giving some coma issues at low magnification but the wide angle views of the Moon and Deep Sky Objects (DSOs) are breathtaking!

Started observations decades ago and built my first observatory in 2004; now i have two. Also have IAU Minor Planet Center code: N30

I like to do astrometry of asteroids, multi band photometry of variable stars with my system and some basic spectroscopy as well with Star Analyser.

Equipment:

Telescopes: Celestron C14, LUNT 152, CBSAP APO Refractor 127, Sky Watcher GOTO Dob 12 and more

Mount: Losmandy Titan, Celestron CGX

Camera: SBIG ST9XE, SBIG RGH, ZWO 183 mono cooled, ZWO 174, ZWO 290, Canon 6D

Muhammad Ali

10 years ago in year 2009, i met the President / founder of LAST Mr. Umair Asim for the first time, that changed my life forever. He introduced to a new aspect of Universe through Astronomy and Astroimaging. I got inspired from his work and equipment. Today i am totally dipped into this hobby and now an avid Astroimager.  I am proud owner of different equipment that helps me to satisfy the quest for knowing and seeing the Universe on my own laptop and Cellphone.

For planetary and lunar imaging i use Celestron SCT 8" Nexstar Evolution. For deep sky imaging i have Skywatcher AZ EQ 5 mount and Explore Scientific ED 80 CF Achromatic Triplet. I started using Canon 60D DSLR Camera but today have 3 dedicated Astroimaging Cameras. ZWO ASI 1600 MM Pro CMOS, Atik 490 EX CCD and SBIG STF 8300 M CCD cameras now ride on the back of telescopes for capturing night sky. Narrowband filters set, broadband filters and different light pollution filters help me to do Astroimaging right from my rooftop under heavy light polluted Bortle 8 skies of Lahore, Pakistan. This journey towards my newly found hobby would never had been possible without Lahore Astronomical Society.

Alpha Bhatti

Telescope: Orion 4.5” newtonian reflector

Focal ratio: F4 and focal length: 450mm
Camera: Orion Starshoot IV Planetary camera (CMOS).

I am an amateur astronomy and I love learning new things, particularly about the night sky and about the tools that help me explore it. The telescope has been a very handy tool for me and although I do not have a sturdy mount or tripod for my telescope, I improvise and don’t let missing pieces of equipment come in way of observing the beautiful objects in the sky above.

Yumna Majeed

The first object I saw with my telescope was Saturn and its rings. It was amazing to see that tiny piece of celestial art! I have seen and captured moon images only. I use my telescope for schools/public outreaches. Kids have seen Moon and Mars. The thing which makes my telescope special is it is signed by three real astronauts including NASA astronaut Scott Kelly. I won it in an international competition on behalf of my volunteering service in Pakistan.

Equipment:

Telescope Aperture 90mm

Focal Length 900 mm

Magnification 180x

Umair Asif Siddiqui

My name is Umair Asif Siddiqui. Astronomy is my passion & Chartered Accountancy is my profession. From reading books of astronomy to the visual astronomy, there is an era which spreads through my whole timeline. And two persons count in at the most, Mr. Umair Asim ( President Last) & Mr. Zain Ahmad (Owns Sahal Telescopes).

Equipment:

Telescope: Celestron Evolution 8 Inch.

Camera: ZWO 294MC PRO.

Extras: Hyperstar V4.

Roshaan Nadeem

My name is Roshaan Nadeem. I’m a student of O’levels at LGS Johar Town and an astronomy enthusiast. I have a Celestron 4.5” Newtonian Telescope. Astrophotography is my hobby and I’m a beginner Astrophotographer. This telescope is my first and I have a very good experience with it! I think space is an inspirational concept that allows you to dream big. I plan to reach the cosmos with passing time because I think that is where I belong!

Dr Syed Hunain Riaz

I have a 70 mm Celestron reflector with 10 mm and 20mm eye pieces which came with the scope. I additionally ordered a small kit from the US with multiple viewing filters, a 2x barlow lens for magnifying the eye pieces'focal lengths along with a 6mm,12.5 mm and 20mm additional Plossl eye pieces. Overall a decent enough beginner scope. I have seen the craters of the moon much detail and managed to get a glimpse of Mars.
