Team LAST
Alpha Bhatti (Event Manager)
I have always been fascinated by the sky and its beauty from a very young age, my wish was to be a Pilot when I grew old so I can reach for the stars. Luckily as I grew older I learned of better ways to reach beyond what I could see. I have worked with Radio telescopes and SDR but was very lucky to have found Lahore Astronomical Society last year when I moved to Pakistan. I was welcomed as a volunteer and participated in multiple events. Currently I am Event Manager for LAST and have arranged few activities and event throughout many educational institutions. I'm grateful to be part of such an amazing entity and family.
Roshaan Bukhari (Vice President)
I joined LAST in 2014. My love for Astronomy and space in general dates back to when I was in class 4 and saw pictures of the planet Mars for the first time. My passion for space had me change my academic career from medical sciences to Astronomy. I currently teach Astronomy at various institutes in Lahore and look forward to continue working with team LAST to strengthen the roots of Astronomy in Pakistan.
Maroof Mian (Sr. Vice President)
Maroof Mian has always loved Astronomy and is a key figure in our outreach programs. He also owns a couple of telescopes which he brings to our outreaches.
Sameer R. Shami (Vice President)
A professional musician, filmmaker and an Astronomer, Sameer uses a Celestron telescope with SBIG astronomical cameras and is an amazing photographer.
Umair Asim (President)
I think i was born with A-S-T-R-O-N-O-M-Y in my genes. This is what i have always liked to do and this is what i have always done. Data Acquisition (Photometry, Spectroscopy and Astrometry) and using telescopes at my observatory has always been my main interest in Astronomy. My observatory has an observatory code (N30) from Minor Planet Center, IAU.
Nothing makes me more happier than showing people the celestial objects from my telescopes. Astronomy has come a long way in Pakistan. The future is just Astronomical!
Arshad Aleem (Media Manager)
I am an Amateur Astronomer and do anything for Astronomy. I am an Engineer by profession and Astronomer by passion. I became a part of LAST's core team in 2018. Actually got interested in Astronomy in my 3rd standard. When Shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon reentry into earth atmosphere (2003). Since then I've done a lot of stuff like watching Astro documentaries, reading Astro books, communicating Science with LAST, sharing my engineering stuff with LAST, basic Astrophotography, Astro blogging and volunteering to cover LAST's meetings.
